Years: 1806 - 1876
Polish historian, writer, director of the Ossolineum (Library), Reformation adherent, the author and publisher of the first Polish historical almanac “Monument to Polish historian” («Monumenta Poloniae Historica»). He was known under his pseudonym Yan Plaza (Jan Płaza). For a long time he lived in Lviv and wrote in polish. In 1828 August entered the Lviv University. When rebellion began in Poland in 1830, he joined Army of Congress Poland. After its fail he moved to Galicia. In 1845 he was an active member of Ossolineum. In 1869 Bielowski became a head of the Intitution and its chief editor.
