He was a Polish writer of science fiction, philosophy and satire. His books have been translated into 41 languages and have sold over 27 million copies. Lem was born in 1921 in Lviv. His children’s and youth’s years he spend in Lviv, after described is in his book “Visokyi Zamov” (High Castle). He graduated gymnasium No. 2, now it is school No. 8, 2 Pidvalna St. In 1939 he entered medical institute. After the war the young writer entered medical university in Krakow (Poland).Since that time he stayed there.
