Ukrainian linguist, political activist and diplomat. Ambassador and Minister of the UPR in Berlin. In 1919 - a diplomatic representative of WUNR (Western Ukrainain National Repunlic), later counselor of embassy and ambassador. In 1924-25 - unofficial ambassador of the UPR in London. Professor at Warsaw University (1929-1939) and Secretary of the Ukrainian Scientific Institute in Warsaw and editor of its publishing. In his novels, Smal-Stocki investigated the question of Ukrainian folk etymology and Russian language policy in the USSR. Today in Lviv there is a street with his name.
