Ukrainian Greek Catholic priest and composer. He is considered to be one of the first professional Ukrainian composers of Galicia. Graduated from Lviv theological seminary. In late 1840s he began to be interested in religious music. When theatrical life in Galicia reached its prosperity (in the late 1840s) Verbytsky created music to Ukrainian performances in theatres. He is best known as the composer of the Ukrainian national anthem Shche ne vmerla Ukrayiny (‘The Ukraine has not Perished’)
